Why Now?

Why Now?

Hello, my friends,

At Fit Factor, I meet with every new potential client for a one-hour complimentary consultation. This time is essential for me to understand their lifestyle, eating habits, injuries/limitations, etc. It is also important for them to make sure we are a good fit for what they want. To ensure they are comfortable at our facility, and that client/fitness professional have a good rapport and potential relationship.

But the most important question I ask them, and the one I am the most curious to know the answer is:

Why now?

What happened that made you pick up the phone and call us? Why did you decide that now is the time to start an exercise program?

Here is a common scenario for a typical prospect over 50. Maybe even someone you know.

They may have gradually gained weight over the last couple of decades, and now they are overweight, getting there, or even worse.

Somewhere over the years, they stopped participating in hobbies and sports. If they used to go to the gym or go out walking or running, that too slipped away at some point.

Now they have aches and pains, difficulty sleeping and taking two or three different medications.

Hopefully, their doctors would urge them to exercise instead of adding another RX.

Does this sound like someone you know? Maybe this is you. But you are not ready to commit.

Not yet.

Reaching a “turning point” is when we make a decisive change at a critical juncture to resolve a crisis.

It’s when we say, “Enough!”

It’s when we finally decide to make a change in our life.

Many of Us Need a Moment of Crisis

I have talked to countless people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond who have adopted a healthy lifestyle through exercise and proper nutrition. It is common to hear them talking about a turning point as a dramatic moment of clarity – realizing that something serious was at risk.

Consider these four real-client examples of people who have been there:

#1: Bob was 74, eating on the go, traveling, and (still) working too hard to notice his declining health. Then, a sharp chest pain sent him to the ER. After that, and two stents later, Bob turned his life around and started eating right and exercising. Now at 78, he is healthy and happy.

#2: Alan’s doctor told him he had diabetes – and ordered him to start an exercise program immediately. With a combination of strength training, eating right, and long walks with his dog, Alan got the disease under control.

#3: John was at the grocery store when he needed to get down to pick something at the bottom shelf and realized he could not do it. Now he is working out three times a week with a personal trainer.

#4: Diana was on a family vacation and was heartbroken to stay back at the hotel rather than join the group hikes. She went back home, hired a personal trainer, and now regularly participates in community races.

How to Resolve the Crisis

First, you need to understand that you need to fix a problem. We are here to help you make that first step and keep you on track through your fitness journey.

You know the benefits of exercise – how it improves your heart and mental health, lowers the risk of falling and cognitive decline. How it allows you to feel stronger, move better and look great.

Don’t wait till you get scary news from your doctor. Be the boss of your turning point.

You got this! Take that first step and call us.

See you soon.
