2021 Reflections

Hello my friends,

I hope y’all had a wonderful end of 2021 and beginning of 2022. Like I said in my last newsletter, 22 sounds like a good number, so let’s make the best out of it!

Today I want to leave all the health, exercise, and nutrition out, and talk about 2021and 2022. I want to talk about all the wonderful things that happened in the last year, the not-so-wonderful ones, and what I hope for the new year.

Two years have gone by and we are still dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic – something we are going to deal with for a while. Yesterday was the Delta variant, today is the Omicron. Who knows what tomorrow will be, and then there will be another variant and another. I can say we are all tired of it. We are tired to hear it on the news, or talk about it. All we can do is to listen to the authorities and make the best decisions to keep ourselves and our loved ones healthy and safe.

And through this crazy year, We at Fit Factor kept our head above the water and continued to provide a service to our community that I believe is crucial for optimal quality of life, and it is making a difference in the way Fort Lauderdale ages.

In case you still do not know, we have been helping our community to stay healthy, active, and strong since 2001. We work with healthy individuals and clients with different health issues or limitations, such as joint replacements, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and others.

We have a simple purpose – to help our clients to stay strong and live long. To age successfully doing all the things we need, love, and want for the rest of our lives, on our own terms. To build strong relationships and have fun in the process.

So first and foremost I want to thank the two most important people that contribute to our success.

Our CLIENTS! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and loyalty. Many of you have been with us since the very first day we open our doors, 21 years ago. Some of you supporting us for a few months, but everyone is just as important in our success, growth, and passion. You are my warriors, my family, and my inspiration. I wish you nothing but the best in 2022!

Our TRAINERS Cesar, Derek, Remy, Tina, and my PARTNER Mike. Thank you for your loyalty and support. Thank you for sharing my vision and passion to help our community to stay fit and active. You are also my warriors, my family, and my inspiration. Let’s rock 2022!

A lot has happened in the last year. Some days, weeks, or even months felt like it dragged forever, but looking back, 2021 felt more like a blur. I want to take this paragraph to toast all the loved ones we have lost in 2021. A parent, a child, a friend, or a pet. Cheers to you! If you lost someone you love, then you have the best Guardian Angel looking over and protecting you from up above. Mr. Joyner, this one is for you… I miss you every day and I can’t wait to have some Bourbon with you on the Other Side.

Last June I was invited to be a speaker at the Functional Aging Institute Summit. Without a doubt that was my most rewarding professional accomplishment in 2021. I still remember the day Dr. Dan Ritchie, the president of FAI called and asked me to talk about One-on-One Personal Training, and how Fit Factor thrived through the pandemic.

It was super special to be involved with other incredible fitness professionals, share my passion, teach and inspire new ones.

Ahhhh, Aspen! In September we spent 4 magical days in Aspen after a great FAI Mastermind meeting in Denver, CO. I fell in love with the town. The weather was perfect, the leaves were changing to a beautiful bright golden yellow, the mountains were spectacular, the food was incredible. We hiked, horseback rode, fly-fished, and walked a lot. This was an awesome personal accomplishment in 2021… to check another U.S. state off my list. Thank you Mike for a great trip!

Then Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year just rolled right through one another… The highlights were my 27th. Anniversary with Mike, my Halloween Beach Workout make-up, Mr. Russell’s beautiful Boat Parade party that finally put me in the Christmas spirit, and my family visit just a couple of weeks ago, which I had not seen in over two years since my dad passed away.

It was a blast to spend time with my nephew Enzo (9) and my niece Lorena (6). We drew monsters, we did cartwheels, we chased each other in the playground.

I also turned 51 last Thursday. I feel awesome! Someone asked me the famous Satchel Paige’s quote: “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?” I did not hesitate to answer – 35! Then I stopped and on a second thought gave a different answer… “A lot of times I feel like I am 25, sometimes I feel like I am 75, but most of the time, I feel like I am 35.”

Out with the old, in with the new. With the old we create the experience we need to use in the new. I have many hopes and wishes for 2022. I want to keep growing my business so we can help as many people in our community as possible. I want to do more public speaking so I can spread the message about exercise for life. I want to learn French. I want my body to stay healthy so I can continue to work out, play tennis, ride my bike, work in my yard, travel, and do all the other things I love to do.

For you… Find your tribe. Stay connected with the world and the people around you. Stay curious. Discover a new passion. Know that it is never too late. Re-purpose. Age like a ROCKSTAR!

Happy New Year my friends. One with much love, peace, gratitude, patience, friendships, and health. With all that, we can work hard for our wealth.

With love,

Paulo
